The Darkside of Freedom

There is a Way

How Are You Protected

Christian Biker and Trucker Tracts

The three biker tracts reviewed here are from the International Christian Bikers' Association of British Columbia. The trucker tract is from the Fellowship Tract League of Lebanon, Ohio.

The Dark Side of Freedom

...nothing like that dark night air rolling over the bars, then caressing your face...
The author tells of a brother, "set-up for the biggest frame-up." This brother, J.C., had became a threat to the system and a judge named Annas had it out for him. "Judas, one of J.C.'s boys, sold him out for a couple of bills." Judas has him arrested, "No warrant - No charge!" They smack him around and present him to a stacked jury. Pretty interesting so far. But who is this J.C.? We're not tipped off until the third page, "You see, J.C. is Jesus Christ, God's Son."

Winding it all up the author admits, "For years, I thought bikes and the freedom of the road was where it was at. Then someone took the time to tell me of Jesus, and He gave me total freedom."

There is a Way

The cool night air carressed his face as the headlight pierced through the darkness...

A young man joins a biker gang and life looks pretty rosy, at first. But after awhile "a few of the bro's had been do'n down time...Where did it all go wrong? How did he get on this stink'n merry-go-round anyway?"

Then, in what seems to be a road-to-Damascus experience, the biker is stopped on a lonely highway at night, by Jesus himself. He prays at His feet, sobbing.

When he stands up he notices a body lying motionless by the side of the highway. No, it can't be. It's his own body! He's had an accident and is dying. Then all of a sudden, "he noticed that the air was smokey and he could smell something...something burning!"

"My friend, if you're reading this...then you still have a chance."

How Are You Protected?

God drafted you a long time ago, and He's patiently waiting to pin on your "wings."

This tract starts by enumerating the dangers of the road and the precautions one can take to prevent accidents. Then it promises the biker a "double shot of protection" simply by asking God.

If you choose to follow God then you become a soldier in His army. And you wear armor because, "they fight a tougher battle than most of you guys could handle; because their battle never ends, and they fight an enemy they can't see."

The author then tells of all the ways the devil tries to deceive you, with heroin, "it makes you feel so-o-o good," with liquor, "one more for the road," and women, "Hurry up! Jump in bed with Charlie's wife; you'll be back in your tent before he gets back."

But if you join the army of God you'll have victory over sin. "Every member of God's Army is an officer, and that makes for one strong outfit (much like the strength found in the Family of bikers)."

Destination?

Or do you want to layover in hell, where you will suffer pain and agony, heart-break and anguish forever and ever?

This tract starts by asking the trucker where he was last dispatched. Preying on the sense of professionalism and responsibility that truckers share the author reminds him of his duty to get his cargo to its destination safely.

But for your FINAL destination, you are your own dispatcher and you pick your own layover point. The choice is yours, "no pain, no sorrow, no worries, no trials, no temptations, no failures" or " pain and agony...forever".

The trucker is advised to get on the "highway [to heaven]" immediately. Then he walks the reader through what he calls the "Romans Highway." It's a list of verses, all from Romans, leading to salvation.
