Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:37-40

The Angela What WOULD Jesus do? The "WWJD?" craze has taken this nation by storm eclipsing in popularity pet rocks, dancing flowers, and even the clapper! Jesus can now at long last say that he is once again more popular than the Beatles. Praise God!

It's easy to get caught up in a trend and forget the real meaning that is the driving force behind a slogan, jingle, cliche, mindlessly repeated aphorism or empty homily. So I had to stop and ask myself what "What Would Jesus Do?" really means. And I believe it all comes down to hair.

We hired a computer artist to digitally reconstruct what Jesus would look like today in a number of popular do's. And I believe we are the first web site (outside of the Christian Identity movement) to depict Jesus as a kicky blonde, kind of young, kind of now! While the contemporary view of blondes is one of diminished intellectual capacity this is only a myth, and certainly in Bible times this misconception was not entertained. So while WE might not be able to take a blonde Christ seriously, it would not have been a problem in ancient Palestine.

The JoanThe real problem has to do with Jesus' bone structure. While the ideal face is oval, and his mother's most certainly was, the face of God must be extraordinarily long and rectangular for these are the features that Jesus inherited. While do #2, the "Joan," might provide him with the authority and collected self confidence for success in a corporate environment it lacks the ease necessary for work in the helping professions. This style only accentuates the squareness of his face, shortening both his nose and neck, causing him to look unnecessarily severe.

The SheilaDo #3, the "Sheila," is the most sophisticated of our selection and would be perfect for negotiating time outs with the likes of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. This modified bob, my favorite, brightens Jesus' face like none of the other do's. It lengthens the neck and its unified shape denotes simplicity, confidence, and vitality - perfect for a man of action. Off the collar it guarantees no loose strands to interfere with miracles and acts of healing. The sauciness of the style would fit right in with publicans and sinners, it's cosmopolitan, yet earthy, definitely no-nonsense, but at home day or night on the streets of Paris or London.

Do #4, the "Diana," is perfect for state dinners or formal evening events. Its daring complexity and exaggerated height is sure to steal the show! The spit curls around the eyes lends an air of mystery and seriousness to Jesus' face. This style is almost regal, and recalls the sad, yet compassionate, demeanor of Princess Diana, another favorite whose tragic death rocked the world.

We can never know which do Jesus would have done, this exercise is purely speculation. But if you like it we'll see if we can't license it for t-shirts, caps, mugs and what not. While some may say that we are exploiting the memory of Jesus for personal gain, nothing could be closer to the truth. But as long as your purchase makes you feel good, isn't that all that really matters?
