Many of you have written asking that we post reader responses, both positive and negative. So each month we'll post letters from friends (and letters from faux.) We will omit personal information from the postings in most cases. Also check out TEEN ANGLE and HAIKUS.

August 1998

just came across your web site. what a hoot! so refreshing! lotsa yuks! will notify friends and relatives!

I LOVE THIS PLACE

I would like to know what you're motivation for writing this web site is. I have no objection to it, but I was just curious as to what point you're trying to make. I would like to know who funds this, what organization it is affiliated with, etc... I think it is very interesting and very well done, so hats off to you. Please take the time to write back as I am very curious.

This is the best site on the web.

I love your site and am proud to call myself one of the "un born again" however, I would like to respectfully request that in the future you do not make fun of Agnes Moorehead.

Whatever you are paying Mrs. Bowers and Ms. Hogjowl, they deserve a big raise!

Brilliant. It's about time the anti-abortionists tasted some of their own medicine!

Your site is great. Keep it up, so to speak...

Great website! In Portugal (Europe) we are having a referendum on the abortion issue 3 weeks from now. I've added a link to your page to our pro-choice student's association homepage. The URL is http://www.terravista.pt/Mussulo/2238http://www.terravista.pt/Mussulo/2238

Thank you. You have helped me to start to get over the thought that God hated me for having an abortion.

I have read both sides of this debated issue. There is no reason on the side of pro-lifers, only emotions running rampant. They disbelieve that women have to seriously think about their decision before they make it and deal with the effects afterwards. I am pro-choice because I chose to have my 2 children but I also chose to have an abortion. Both things were not an easy choice and it took time to do. I do not appreciate having other people tell me what to do in my life and what to do with it either. I am only pro-choice because I believe women deserve the right to choose. If this was a male issue, it would be different. I feel with the government involved that it is just another way for the majority to control the minority.

I would like to thank you for this page it has helped me with my debate in my English. I believe that people like you would be a great help to our society being able to voice our opinions is a great gift. Spread it!!

[In answer to the question: If you could take it with you, what would you take?]
One realistic stuffed animal who most wants to go at the time. Way to complex to explain why this would be signifigant to me, but I plan to bring it as a special gift for God/Jesus.

Everone IS bringing a "thank you" gift, aren't they?

I love reading your web site. I think you are hilarious. But this subject [censorship] is also serious, and I am very thankful that you provide so much food for thought. Keep up the fight.

I am a Critian...no um a Christin..no that's not right either..ahhh a Christian (I can spell too). I love this site. Brilliant!

All i have to say..is wonder if all those people who protest abortions could just look ahead...how are they helping the children they "save" from an abortion? No one seems to be Interested except to yellandscream...how bout that ? Seem like a lot of people just like to yell...doesn't it...they just don't care...beyond making themselves look good.!!

Thank you for being honest and presenting your views..most of which I am in total agreement. I do not find this site offensive in any way. I am a strong believer that Truth finds its way to the 'top' regardless of the circumstances. In certain ways we are still coming out of the Dark Ages. It saddens me really but this site always cheers me up to let me know there is hope after accepting the Christian Path.

About 3 years ago I had an abortion, and I was destroyed. Destroyed at the fact that I went against my religion, and had people tell me I would go to hell. There's not a day in my life that I wasnt upset or didn't cry. I thought I let God down and that he would never forgive me...I lived with this guilt until I read this article. Whomever wrote this continue the amazing work, the Lord gave you a gift keep using it..You've helped me in many ways that I wish you knew how grateful I truly am. Now Whenever I hear someone degrade another person that the Lord will never forgive them, and they will go to hell, I will just sit back and laugh of how truly ignorant people can be. Thanx and God Bless....

A woman has a right to her own body and her own choices. PERIOD.

I think this is a very good site, and gives much data as to why abortion is not a sin I am also interested in any further information anyone might have on being pro-choice .

You guys really do your homework! Love da sites. Cheers to you!

I came across your site while doing a search for John Shelby Spong. Most of what I see there, particularly your tenets speak to my heart and the personal form of spirituality I try to practice. I have tremendous faith that the growing movement of which you are a part, is opening up a new age of true love and brotherhood. More importantly, the existence of groups such as yours is proof that God's love is growing in our hearts.

Now for my criticism. Please take it lovingly to heart. The snide, sarcastic tone you take, particularly in your Charles Colson section, is representative of the "I'm right and your a fool" type of attitude that as post fundamentalists you would attribute to the fundamentalists you are criticizing. If indeed you are offering a positive spiritual alternative, there is no need to even mention, much less denigrate that which is being offered by others. And veiled personal attacks, such as your little God and Colson in the courtroom scene, definitely detract from your message of love and nonjudgment. Attack and judgment are tools which we should seek to completely empty ourselves of in the post fundamentalist age.

I appreciate your good work and leave you with a beautiful affirmation.

Miss Poppy -
I really wish that I shared your creative passion. I read your bio - I used to in fact work at a christian brain-washing camp and I am now a student of philosophy and a confused pagan. Your work is entertaining and refreshing. I am not quite sure that I agree all that you have to say, but if I did, it probably wouldn't be so interesting.

Hi, I stumbled across your site doing a search for info/reviews on the book "Stealing Jesus". What a breath of fresh air! And what fun! I consider myself a Christian and I've discovered that the further I get from Christianity the better I can truly believe in Christ, and vice versa. And I think you know what I mean. Bravo! Keep it up.

I think it's great to poke a bit of fun at these fundie types, but you are sure not even close to extreme as some of their sites when it regards gays, abortion and (of course) guns. I read through some of your 'faux' mail. I'm wondering --does the lack of good spelling and grammatical abilities go hand in hand with these guys? Keep up the good work, and when the going gets a little tough with them--push back harder! They are coming to your site by choice.

cool :)

I could be wrong, but didn't Jesus address the matter of homosexuality in Matthew 19: 12? Your page is fascinating. I'll have to explore it more--it's kinda bizarre!

Dear Poppy:
Thank you very much for your page. Receiving it is one of the high points of my month. Keep asking the tough questions! Thanks to your page, I'm strongly temped to get a fish sign and glue it to my car fin side up.

I just reactivated my old e-mail account, dormant for several months, and in the midst of tons of spam, I found several of your mailings...

Thanks for making my morning of drudgery of wading through mail *FUN* :)

Keep on keeping on, hallelujah and amen, sister!!! ;)

A resounding, "Wow" to the article on female symbolism in Christian iconography. That's neat stuff. Salaciously enlightening.

After leaving San Francisco for a job in San Antonio, TX (where christianity and city politics are one in the same) your website offers a much needed respite from the "love" the double-digit IQ'd, self-righteous cretins that populate this backwoods city. And the dress here... unbelievable! Flip do's, floral print summer dresses worn with tennis shoes, and darkly stained Oak everthing. uck. keep up the good

TEEN ANGLE & HAIKUS

Hi there. I came across your site last week, and I must say that it is truly inspiring. Too bad I didn't see this some years earlier - I might still be willing to call myself Christian. As it is, that name will always bear a bit of a stigma for me, but at least now I have received wisdom enough from the Divine to realize that not all Christians are alike, and that there are truly those among us who live as Jesus did.

Maybe it sounds peculiar to hear the word "Jesus" coming from a professed non-Christian. I would just like to say that although I may not worship him as an aspect of God, I nevertheless believe that he had a very inspiring message for all of us, and that people have forgotten what is truly important as the centuries have passed. Anyway, just wanted to let you know. I'm sixteen, and I intend to tell all my friends about your great site. Keep it up, and don't ever lose faith - though I'm sure that after doing all this, you won't need to worry about that. =) For anybody who has any comments, my e-mail is jmaazu@bellsouth.net. For now, ciao!
Jonathan Merz P.S. Here's a haiku which, although not specifically pro-choice, is on your side.

Finding my way out
Of the blinded mass, I take
A breath of pure air

"We really hate you,"
They say, "but Jesus loves you."
They must be schizo.
