Many of you have written asking that we post reader responses, both positive and negative. So each month we'll post letters from friends (and letters from faux.) We will omit personal information from the postings in most cases.

September 1998

I really enjoy your Adult Christianity Site. Any chance you sell T-shirts and other stuff-- Would just love to advertise for ya'll.

Thanks !!

May Peace Prevail on Earth --Amen

I just discovered your website. As a writer of religious satire, I hope one day I am able to achieve the thoughtfulness and class that is presented in the articles on your site.

I hope you're around forever.

Take care

I love your e-zine and recommend it to my profs here at Berea College Religion Dept. Kudos.

I have always said that religion majors and professors and seminarians are the most irreverent group of people. This is because they are struggling with what is really important instead of whether or not telling a tasteless Jesus joke is an express ticket to Hell. You folks only confirm that.

Thank you for putting together such a wonderful website. I really believe this information needs to be available for people.

Thank you for publishing the truth.

You provide a great service!!

Awesome

miss dixon........

great site........very thorough and highly informative......i'll be back!

f.y.i. the doukhobor website link you have on your "sex and more sects" page should be changed.......the new url is http://www.dlcwest.com/~r.androsoff/index.htm

Dear Poppy,

I think that your sight is excellent. It's so good to see someone giving voice to such ideas. I think people can benefit greatly by looking beyond the conventional Christian views. Having escaped the brainwashing of a (family endemic) religion, it was with much pleasure that I surfed your sight.

Myself, and people who I know who share some of my views, constantly find ourselves under attack and having to defend against a (so called) godly opposition. It is they who start the battles they fight over and over with us; I wish to be left alone, yet they wish to control me. I couldn't care less what they think or do so what business is it of theirs what I think or do?

Once again, congrats. Keep up the good work.

I think that both the pro-life and the pro-choice should get the heck out of the legel part and let the woman be their self, If they want one then do it, If they dont then don't. I am pro-woman, it is their body and their life. Let them make the choice. twmcasper@hot mail.com

No one can say that they are pro-life untill they make a mistake, become pregnant, and are not ready to care for a baby or go though the pain and suffering of carring one also. Many people say that you can always give it up for adoption, but that is a lot easier said than done after you have become attacted to the baby!

i love your page and you're opinions Miss Poppy! Never let them slow you down!

Thanks in advance. Don't be misled by the moniker, I am atheist, and I find great humor in your site! (As well as thought provoking material for the Christian masses) I am especially impressed with the volume of your site, it seems I will never get through it all (although I will try). Thanks for the great evening, and more to come!

I truly believe in abortion. I'm going to tell others aobout this site. I feel sometimes that I'm the only pro-choice person in my small town. I think I am. We need to start to have rallys just like the pro-choice. We need to march to convince people.

Thanks for your incredible efforts to bring sanity and enlightenment to Christianity. I really thought the fundamentalists were preempting the faith. How nice to see a ray of sanity enter the scene!

I am an ex-clergy Methodist heterosexual male Caucasian who visited your Website for the first time today.

It was scary and refreshing. Scary because I could find no reason other than socialization for the guilt I felt reading the site. And refreshing because it was like coming home.

Thanks for the insights

good work!

Stumbled onto your site today by accident. haven't had time to look it all over, but wanted to drop a line and say thanks, for the lovely antidote to xtian damage...

Great site! Nice to see a christian site that doesn't think irony means 'kind of metallic'.

I love cruising through your site, and all the sites that I can find that affirm my beliefs that the christian right is out of control, and even though I laugh at it, dangerous.

Love the page

Would you believe it, we get the EXACT same kind of negative mail on our anti-Hanson page.

As to abortion.......the world is overpopulated anyway.

[In response the Belinda Hogjowl's Interview with the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM) in August's issue]

bv, dear--

i really think you're pushing the envelope a bit in insulting the bird in public... you know his temper *and* his pride. and his magical powers far surpass you, whose are about as threatening as those of the leprechaun in the lucky charms commercials.

word up, sistah frien'...

in bob's name--

Ms. Dixon, you delightful creature, This month's issue sings, and I appreciate your timely mailing of a pack of goodies and note (I've given the emergency baptism kit to friends who've just had a baby; I'm sure they'll find it terribly convenient). I wrote you in a fit of pique about my boss, asking for your warm thoughts, and apparently it's helped a bit, because the horrid battleaxe seems to be cooling out a bit. Thank you for the spiritual comfort, especially in light of the fact I forgot to stamp the self-address envelope. Can I write you a check and get it deducted from my taxes as a religious exemption?

Loving you

dear poppy & co,

What a delightful website!! I have questions but not by way of accusation or harassment (I hope). I am a Southern Baptist pastor in [deleted] and understand completely yours feelings & sentiments (I think). I have long been caught in the middle of the funnymentalist takeover of the SBC and have found it difficult to continue to think rationally as a Christian without condemning those of both sides with whom i disagree. Many times i have simply failed. However, i learned to question both sides. Perhaps you also could learn to question (without condemning) all comers to the field of eternal truth. For example, i have little use for either Chuck Colson or Shelby Spong, but i have learned valuable lessons from both.

I hope all of you also may be equally critical of all thinkers, regardless of left-right orientation, political correctness, or consequence of acceptance. I must say, however, it is a thankless (humanly speaking) job & position to hold. although we are poles apart, i pray God's best for you.

You are doing wonderful, fantastic work, and I've alerted everyone I know to your presence (if only to see what a well-designed page looks like!).

Take care, doll

Dear Editor,

Stumbled onto your web site. At first I thought "Oh, no another Christian fanatic." But after clicking on several of you links, I found it refreshing and amusing that you have used the Bible to let "Bible Thumbers" realize they should know the whole book not just parts of it.

Your citations show a wealth of information and excellent research. While I don't agree with all of your rationales, I do respect and honor the work you are doing.

Hope it opens more eyes and saves a few more buised, over-thumped Bibles.

great zine... I love it.

Dear Poppy and the gang at Adult Christianity... Greetings from sunny Singapore. Here I was thinking I was the only Christian who actually tried to approach the Bible from a critical point of view and here you go bursting my bubble and showing me that I'm not unique. Damn you. Reading the site and its contents is a surreal experience, somewhat akin to exploring the inside of another person's head and finding it largely similar to one's own. Now, when friends ask me what brand of Christianity I practice, I at least put a name to it.

Keep up the good work. You got a friend in me.

I agree with the things you said about how anti-abortionists take the bible and interpet only to agree with their views, no butts about it. The bible said THIS, and this obviously means THIS, so there. I did not agree with your breath idea. And I did not like how you called the anti-abortionists dumb for the way they interpet the bible. But other than that I think you had some good ideas and it was mostly logical. i am not religious at all, but i like your ideas better than anti-abortionists because your train of thought was believeable and made sense. Thank you for changing my view on religious views. - qopnop@aloha.net

I love your work. As the mom of an adopted baby girl and an atheist I adnire you standing up for our rights. I notice that now the Xian right has switched from puching the anti-abortion message to pushing the 'kill the queers' bit. I guess they figured that everyone's mind is already made up and they're just beating a dead horse. But why they're gay bashing is a mystery to me. Gays don't have or cause a lot of abortions. I think everyone should support Planned Parenthood. They do more to prevent abortions than anyone. :)
