That's "Our Father, SIR"!
boone-again 2.19.97 - Los Angeles
Trinity Broadcasting Network, a nationwide religious broadcasting network, has dropped Pat Boone's weekly half-hour show "GospelAmerica." TBN's decision was based on Boone's recent appearance at the American Music Awards where he showed up dressed in the attire of a "heavy metal rock singer." The 62-year-old singer was promoting his latest album, "In a Metal Mood / No More Mr. Nice Guy" in which he mixes "heavy metal lyrics" with a "big-band" sound.

Boone's outfit consisted of leather pants, an open leather vest, temporary tattoos, a studded collar and bracelets. Around these parts that's known as "leather." Like we've always said, a man is never taller than when he's standing on his knees.

Boone is quoted as saying, "God is into leather. The first clothes he made for anybody on this planet, he made them out of leather."

Confrontational Speech, Upheld
2.19.97 - Washington
The Supreme Court voted 8-to-1 to uphold the rights of religious protesters to confront clients outside of family planning clinics. Chief Justice William Rehnquist wrote, "There is no generalized right to be left alone on a public street or sidewalk." He maintains that picketing, leafletting and loud protesting are "classic forms of speech that lie at the heart of the First Amendment." The decision will also effect laws aimed at keeping panhandlers from asking people for money.
