Identical twin siblings develop a bond that other siblings can’t understand. This is especially true for the Deane twins, identical sisters who have spent their lives together. They wear matching outfits, work at the same law firm, and even married twin brothers!
The Deane sisters had a lifelong dream of marrying identical twin brothers. But doing so was easier said than done. Learn the viral story about how twin sisters married twin brothers–and became pregnant at the same time.
These Identical Twins Share The Same Lives
Brittany and Briana Deane are identical twin sisters in Salt Lake City, Utah. As with many twins, Brittany and Briana shared much of their lives. They went to the same schools, wore the same clothes, and engaged in the same hobbies.
“We have experienced most milestones of our lives together,” Briana said. “Birthdays, getting your driver’s license, graduations.” Rather than trying to differentiate themselves from each other, the twins consider themselves to be “two halves of a whole.”
Brittany and Briana love to engage in “twin culture.” People who scroll through their Instagram may think that they’re seeing one person reflected in a mirror. They dress similarly, wear the same hairstyle, and even double date.
The twins planned to live together, even as adults. They couldn’t see themselves ever being apart. “We have gone through so much together,” Brittany said. But living as twins in childhood is easy; staying together through adulthood is hard.
A Dream Of Marrying Twin Brothers
Since childhood, the Deane twins have had an unusual dream. They both wanted to marry identical twin brothers. “Marrying twins is something that’s very important to us,” Brittany told PEOPLE.
“Even when we were little girls, I can remember being in kindergarten, knowing that that is what we saw for ourselves.” But fulfilling this dream is easier said than done. Even if one twin fell in love with a man, who can guarantee that the other twin will love his brother?
They Were Apart Once–And It Hurt
Despite sharing everything, from wearing the same clothes to sleeping in the same bed, Brittany and Briana were apart once. They attended separate law colleges for a few years when they “felt loneliness for the first time.” After that, they decided never to part again.
Now the sisters work at the same law firm. They aimed to marry together and live together just as they had always done. But, now in their 30s, their dream of marrying twins seemed less and less likely.
The Chances Were Incredibly Rare
Briana and Brittany understood that the chances of marrying identical twins were incredibly low. “We knew that the chances were incredibly scarce,” Brittany admitted. “The stars had to align for our dreams to come true.”
To increase their odds, Brittany and Briana interacted more with twin subculture. They frequently posted on their Instagram and attended twin events. They found little luck until 2017 when they met another pair of twins at the festival of their dreams.
Spotting Their Future Husbands
In 2017, Brittany and Briana attended an identical twins festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. There, two identical brothers. Because they spotted the brothers from afar, Briana and Brittany couldn’t talk to them.
“We were sitting on the bleachers, and I saw just these two amazingly handsome young men that looked to be about our age,” Brittany recounted. “They were walking across the gym floor below.” Throughout the festival, the twins kept their eyes out for those “handsome men.”
Twinsburg went on for several days, and Brittany and Briana didn’t talk to the twin brothers until the last night of the festival. They were Josh and Jeremy Salyer, 32-year-old twins who were two years older than the Deanes.
“I remember vividly the first time Brittany and I saw Josh and Jeremy at the twins festival,” Briana recalled. “It’s sort of like everything was in slow motion.” Briana hit it off with Jeremy, and Brittany bonded with Josh.
Little Did They Know–The Brothers Had The Same Goal
Unbeknownst to the Deane sisters, Josh and Jeremy Salyer had the same goal for marriage. The brothers from Hagerstown, Maryland, vowed never to marry unless they fell in love with identical twin sisters. The chances of all of these twins meeting were very low.
“Me and Josh always knew we had to find our twins if we were going to get married,” Jeremy said. “We told each other that we’d never be able to unless we find a set of twins that we could fall in love with and marry.”
Connecting Over The “Twin Bond”
Briana and Brittany went on the ultimate double-dates with Jeremy and Josh, respectively. Both couples bonded over their experiences as identical twins, which plays a significant role in their lives.
“I think that they experienced a lot of the same challenges dating what we call singletons–that means non-twins,” Brittany said. “It’s hard when you’re dating someone, and they don’t understand the twin bond.” Despite living across the country, dating came easily to these two couples.
Twinning Together Forever
After months of dating, Josh and Jeremy planned to marry the Deane twins. Like everything else, they did it in sync, proposing to their girlfriends at the same time. They invited Inside Edition to film the proposal.
The Salyer twins took their girlfriends to a hotel in Twin Lakes, Virginia. They knew that the Deanes would want to get engaged at the same time in the same place–after all, they had done everything else together.
Josh and Jeremy decorated a romantic area in a conference room. They scattered rose petals and candles in a heart shape next to a fireplace. In unison, they both got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, the Deane twins said yes!
And the rings? Those matched too. Both were shaped like an infinity knot that the Deane sisters called “twinfinity.” To the sisters’ surprise, their families were in the next room over, ready to celebrate.
Their Wedding, Broadcasted
Over three million people watched the couples’ proposal on YouTube. When TLC managers saw the Inside Edition video, they reached out to the newly engaged twins. Together, they planned the TLC special, Our Twinsane Wedding.
Our Twinsane Wedding is a 40-minute-long special about the Deanes and the Salyers. The episode covers the wedding plans, how the couple met, and their plans for the future. Now, the twins had to plan their wedding with cameras nearby.
The Easiest Wedding Planning Ever
As with everything else, Briana and Brittany had a clear vision of their wedding. Of course, they would marry Jeremy and Josh on the same day in the same place. They themed it, “Twice Upon a Time.”
“A lot of the wedding planning was extremely fun and even peaceful for Brittany and I to do together because we have the same taste,” Briana said. “We had the same vision of what our double wedding day would look like.”
…But It Was Also Hard
Despite the Deane twins having a clear vision, they still lived across the country from their fiancees. The Salyer brothers lived in Maryland, while the sisters lived in Utah. On top of that, their wedding was scheduled to occur in Twinsburg, Ohio, where the couples met.
“I would say the hardest part is planning everything across state lines,” Brittany told PEOPLE, “because none of us live in Twinsburg, Ohio.” Still, the couples managed to plan a fantastic wedding.
The Twinsane Wedding
Brittany and Briana picked out matching wedding dresses. They also wore the same earrings, veil, and hair. Josh and Jeremy wore identical tuxes. They even got officiated by twin ministers!
On August 4th, 2018, the Deane sisters married the Salyer brothers. “This is the day that we have talked about, hoped for, and we are about to go walk into our own dream,” Brittany said on the day of her wedding, which was televised on TLC.
A Bond That “Singletons” Can’t Understand
Both sets of twins have dated non-twins before–which they call “singletons”–but these dates did not understand the twin bond. “It’s just a bond and understanding that you couldn’t find anywhere else,” Josh told the New York Post.
“There wasn’t that understanding of what happens when there’s children,” Briana added. Non-twins did not understand the desire for Briana to raise kids with her sister. She and Brittany call the Salyer brothers “twin princes” and cherish that their dream has come true.
Others Think Their Relationships Are Weird
On the TLC special, Brittany and Briana simultaneously said, “We love being twins.” But they have received a lot of questions about their relationships. Their most common question is whether they switch romantic partners because they look the same.
Despite the questions, Jeremy told Fox News that he gets “mostly positive responses to when people find out about it.” The couples don’t mind talking about their relationships, and they frequently post about their lives on Instagram.
They Know That Others Think It’s Weird
Brittany and Briana understand that other people may think their relationships are weird. And they’re fine with that! “We totally know we are eccentric, socially eccentric,” Briana admitted to Fox News.
When the twins receive strange questions–such as whether they switch partners–they politely respond “no.” They also love to hear that people watched their TLC special. “We’re grateful to everyone who tuned in to watch [our special] — it meant a lot to us,” said Brittany.
So, Do They Mix Each Other Up?
When the couples first met, Josh and Jeremy, fortunately, gravitated to different sisters. But people still ask if they accidentally kiss the wrong person or switch romantic partners. “No, that has not happened,” Josh always replies.
The brothers have no problems distinguishing the sisters, joking calling themselves the “A twin” and “B twin.” Briana and Brittany also have no issues telling the brothers apart. “Our response is that we think that is weird that that is what you would think,” said Brittany.
A Twinteresting Honeymoon
After the twins’ double wedding, they went on a double honeymoon. The newlywed Saylers vacationed on Prince Edward Island off the eastern coast of Canada. They stayed at the “same resort, different rooms,” the sisters said with a laugh.
During an interview, Brittany and Briana exclaimed that they’ve “been tired” since their wedding. With wedding planning and a TLC show in the works, the girls have been “go go go” for months. But they enjoyed it all the same.
Yearly Traditions That Both Couples Share
Throughout their two years of marriage, both Salyer couples have developed annual traditions together. Briana said that they plan to watch their proposal video together every Valentine’s Day. Fortunately, that was recorded and is up on YouTube!
Josh added that they want to visit the Twin’s Day Festival every year. This is not a problem for the sisters. Not only did they get married there, but Brittany and Briana have also attended since 2011. If you’re a twin, expect to see them there!
The Strangest Part–Both Couples Live Together!
According to the Salyers, most people become confused when they hear that both couples are living together. That’s right–both sets of twins live in the same house and aim to raise a family together.
When the couples discuss starting a family together and living together–“that’s where we lose people,” Brittany explained. Despite peoples’ responses, Brittany and Briana had no qualms about discussing their future plans. After the marriage, both sets of twins moved into a Virginia house.
Planning A Family At The Same Time
When the TLC show came out, both couples openly talked conveyed their desires to raise a family together. “If we’re all going to live under the same roof, then naturally, we’re going to help each other raise our one big happy family that we have,” Josh said excitedly. “It’s going to be great.”
However, the Sayler couples went the extra mile. Briana and Brittany wanted to get pregnant at the same time! To pull that off, they would have to coordinate.
Genetically, Their Kids Would Be Closer To Siblings
Briana and Jeremy’s child will be the cousin of Brittany and Josh’s child. But genetically, they will be closer to siblings. Identical twins share the same DNA, which means that their children will have the same DNA, with some discrepancies.
“Even though [our future children are] cousins, they’re technically genetic siblings,” Brittany said in an interview. For the couples, this sounds more exciting than standard cousins. “We imagine it will be like two moms and two dads all raising our families together!”
Even The Parents Aren’t Sure What The Future Holds
Although she supports her daughters’ decision, Brittany and Briana’s mother questions how raising a family will work out. “I like to think about their families and what their life might be like,” Debra Deane said. “If they end up with one child, do they have four parents?”
“How will discipline work?” she continued. “Recognizing mom versus aunt and dad versus uncle. It’ll be interesting, that phase.” The twins may be able to distinguish each other, but the children may struggle!
Raising One Giant Family, Together
When asked what their plans for 2019 were, the Salyers answered that they wanted to start a family–at the same time. “We want to have twins, and we want them to be born on the same day. I know–that’s four babies,” Jeremy told TLC.
Brittany and Briana agree; they want to be one giant family. “I’m going to feel like I’m also the mother of Brittany’s children, and she’ll feel like she’s also the mother of my children,” said Briana.
Getting Pregnant At Separate Times Wasn’t An Option
The sisters told TLC that they couldn’t bear to become pregnant at separate times. “Being pregnant at different times would be difficult, especially with the physical changes that happen,” Briana explained. “I would look very different…That would be so hard.”
If one twin got pregnant, the sisters couldn’t take mirror-image photos together for nine months. They would also experience different symptoms at different times. By getting pregnant together, they could support each other through the process.
Then…The Impossible Happened
Just as everything else lined up in the twin’s lives, pregnancy did as well. On August 14th, 2020, the couples announced on Instagram that Brittany and Briana are both pregnant. The families posted a Baywatch-themed photo, with Josh and Jeremy dressed as lifeguards and Brittany and Briana wearing “baby watch” swimsuits.
“Our children will not only be cousins but full genetic siblings and quaternary multiples!” the post wrote. “Can’t wait to meet them and for them to meet each other!
Now, The Couples Have More Fans Than Ever Before
The Salyer couples shared the announcement with over 61,000 followers, and the post itself received over 11,000 likes within the first few days. Hundreds of commenters expressed their congratulations. Even more, people became curious about what the future will bring.
Some commenters asked if the babies are “singletons,” and others wanted to see if one (or both) twins gave birth to twins. Only the future will tell. One thing’s for sure–the Salyer family has received more fans than ever before!
…And They May Return To TV
During an interview with Fox News, the Salyer couples expressed that they may someday return to the small screen. “We remain open to returning to television in some capacity,” Brittany and Briana agreed.
Josh added that another TV special seemed “unlikely” unless the right opportunity occurred. Now that the twin sisters are both pregnant, they may receive another special. Even if they don’t get filmed again, the families will continue to share their lives with the world.
