Alexandra Daddario always knew she wanted to act, even though she grew up with parents who had nothing to do with the arts.
Her big break happened in 2010 when she landed the leading lady role of Annabeth Chase in the film adaptation of Rick Riordan’s young adult fantasy novel Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
She Wanted To Be A Storyteller
The oldest of three, Daddario grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York, and knew from a young age that she wanted to go into acting. According to Daddario, she wanted to be a storyteller.
During an interview, the actress said, “I always loved storytelling. It was just something I genuinely wanted to do – and I could’ve done anything, really. I did have every opportunity on the planet.”
Her Parents Were Very Supportive
The actress’s parents were very supportive, even though her mother was a lawyer and her father a prosecutor and former head of the New York City Police Department counterterrorism unit.
They made sure their daughter attended the best schools to develop her acting skills, including iconic The Professional Children’s School.
Dropped Out Of College To Pursue Acting Full-Time
The Professional Children’s School has an impressive list of alumni, including Uma Thurman, Vera Wang, and even Christopher Walken. There, she studied the Meisner acting technique, something she would take with her to Marymount Manhattan College.
She only stayed at Marymount for a short time before dropping out to pursue acting full-time.
She’s Worked Alongside A Lot Of Big-Name Actors
Dropping out of college worked out for the aspiring actress. In 2010, she landed her big break in Percy Jackson. From there, she went on to work with some big names in Hollywood.
In 2013, she worked with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey on True Detective, and in 2017 she worked alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron on Baywatch. Today her net worth is an estimated $8 million.
Daddario Would Love To Work With Steve Martin
While Daddario’s resume is full of projects attached to big names like The Rock, there is one actor who she probably would have loved to work alongside.
The actress has a dog named Levon, but in an interview, she joked that she was going to change his name to Steve Martin, as she has a lot of admiration for the actor.
Music Videos Are Part Of Her Resume
Daddario has branched out into other avenues in the entertainment industry, too. When she’s not busy on the set of a film or television show, the actress has been known to appear in music videos.
In 2012, she was in both the music video for Imagine Dragons “Radioactive” and Maroon 5’s “Wait.”
The Actress Made Her Way To The Courthouse…Kind Of
Before all of the blockbuster films and television shows, Daddario branched off into her prosecutor lawyer mother’s line of work (in a way). From 2005 through 2009, the actress appeared in multiple episodes of Law & Order.
While she wasn’t necessarily the lawyer in the episodes, she was technically in a courthouse!
Soap Opera Start
Law & Order was not Daddario’s first taste of the spotlight, though. Her first project actually came when she was 16 years old. From 2002-2003, she played the role of Laurie Lewis on the soap opera All My Children.
The part was only supposed to last one episode, but the director was so impressed by Daddario’s acting chops he made her a reoccurring character.
Moving On From Big Blockbusters
She’s done a lot of work throughout the years, particularly in 2020 and 2021. In those two years, Daddario has been making a name for herself as a more serious actress who doesn’t just work on blockbusters and independent pictures.
Even dabbling in voice work for animated pictures, Daddario has branched out with her craft.
She’s Starring In A New Romeo And Juliet Adaptation
Daddario stayed busy in 2020 and 2021. She filmed not one, not two, but four movies, including an updated version of Shakespeare’s beloved play Romeo and Juliet, called Die in a Gun Fight.
She also did some voice work for an animated film. In 2020 she voiced Lois Lane in Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
Independent Films Aren’t Off Her Radar
This isn’t to say she’s not appearing in blockbusters or independent films anymore. In fact, she’s wrapped up a few in recent years. In 2019, she starred in the independent comedy Can You Keep A Secret?
Daddario has also been dabbling in the horror genre, starring in quite a few thriller films.
Horror And Thriller Films Are Now On Her Resume
Daddario has appeared in quite a few horror and thriller films in the past few years, starting with Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. In 2018, she appeared as Constance Blackwood in We Have Always Lived In A Castle, and in 2019 the actress was Alexis Butler in We Summon The Darkness.
In 2020, she starred in two thriller films: Lost Girls & Love Hotels and Songbird.
An Actress Of The 2010s
While Daddario is still working, she is widely known as an actress from the early 2010s. She appeared in numerous films during that decade, including the 2011 comedy Hall Pass alongside Owen Wilson and Jason Sudekis.
Her part as Paige was small, but it was enough to land her future roles in the industry.
She’s Worked With The Rock More Than Once
During the 2010s, Daddario appeared alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in more than one film. In 2015, she played the role of Blake Gaines, opposite Johnson’s Raymond “Ray” Gaines, in the disaster film San Andreas.
Then, in 2017, she played the role of Summer Quinn, opposite Johnson’s Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon, in Baywatch.
Strikingly Bold Blue Eyes
When Daddario comes onscreen, it is very difficult to miss her. The actress has dark brown hair and the most stunning blue eyes. Even IMDb made a note of the actress’s eyes, calling them “strikingly bold, blue eyes.”
She definitely has her Italian, Irish, English, and Czechoslovak heritage to thank for the dark and light combination!
Lady Of Many Talents
Besides acting, Daddario has other talents. While in school, she became very proficient at playing the piano. She’s also had vocal training! If acting did not work out, she probably could have jumped into the music industry instead.
Her first dream worked out, though, and she’s been killing it in the entertainment industry.
Widespread Recognition Came In 2021
In 2021, Daddario received widespread critical acclaim for her role as Rachel in the HBO satire series The White Lotus. It was really the first time the actress had been recognized for her work on a serious project.
According to Daddario, “I really wanted to work with [creator] Mike White. I loved the material; I loved the character…”
Soup, Soup, And More Soup
Daddario is about more than acting. In fact, she enjoys friendly competition! In 2019, the actor participated in a ten-hour-long soup eating competition. There was a wide variety of soups the participants had to eat during the contest.
While she didn’t wind up winning, Daddario said her favorite soup was the chicken noodle.
She Worked Wtih Jaguar
Jaguar has also taken a keen interest in the actress’s talents and beauty. In 2019, Daddario worked with the car manufacturer on their XJ collection. An elegant car, there were only 300 brought onto the market at the time of its release.

Elizabeth Taylor Is Her Idol
Growing up, the Golden Age of Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor was Daddario’s idol. In fact, Taylor had such an impact on Daddario’s life and decision to become an actress that she became an ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.
The foundation works to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS through education.
She Volunteers At A No-Kill Animal Shelter
This Hollywood beauty works for more foundations and causes than just the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation. As an animal lover, Daddario also enjoys spending time volunteering at The Little Red Dog, a no-kill animal shelter located in Laguna Beach, California.
She has even fostered a few dogs from the shelter, including a labrador mix named Norma!
Also Teamed Up With Auto Trader
On top of volunteering at the dog shelter, Daddario also teamed up with Auto Trader to promote Dogtrader.com. The goal of the website was to help homeless and sheltered dogs find their fur-ever homes.
For an animal lover, this is probably one of the more fulfilling things Daddario could do with her time!
Playing Basketball With Zac Efron Is A Norm
In the 2017 film Baywatch, one of Daddario’s co-stars was Zac Efron. Even though their characters were love interests in the film, it never went that far in real life. The two are just very good friends.
In fact, when they have a spare moment, they enjoy working out and playing basketball together.
Goat Yoga Is One Of Her Quirky Hobbies
Everyone has a quirky hobby or two. In Daddario’s case, it comes in the form of a fad yoga style– goat yoga! This is where those practicing yoga do so surrounded by baby goats.
The goats even jump on people’s backs! Daddario personally enjoys practicing with a goat named “Vincent Van Goat.”
She Travels With Fellow Actors In Her Spare Time
While Daddario is often on set with not a lot of free time, she does her best to make time for things she loves to do. Those things include hopping on her boat and cruising around the ocean, and traveling.
In 2019, she and fellow American Horror Story actress Taissa Farmiga went to Ireland together!
Coachella Is Her Favorite For A Very Different Reason
During interviews, Daddario has professed her love for music but not music festivals. While no one will see the actress dancing in crowds anytime soon, she has professed her love for Coachella.
The thing is, she loved that particular festival solely because it gets everyone out of Los Angeles, cutting the traffic in half!
Add Skiing As Another One Of Her Hobbies
Daddario loves driving her boat, traveling, and doing goat yoga with Vincent van Goat. But she also loves to take the time and go skiing. One of her favorite places to go is The Canyons in Park City, Utah.
She frequently travels there during the winter months with her friend Kate Easton.
Acupuncture Helps Her Relieve Stress
Being an actress can’t be easy. In fact, it can be downright stressful with long hours and crazy filming schedules. Daddario goes straight to acupuncture to relieve stress, aka going to a professional to stick needles in pressure points.
During an interview, Daddario said, “Not only does it relieve stress, but it also makes me feel like Frankenstein.”
An Ocean And Animal Lover
When she’s not on set, Daddario loves being out on the water. In fact, she owns a boat called “My Gal Sal.” She must have felt right at home on the set of Baywatch! She’s also a huge animal lover.
While she has a beloved dog now, growing up, her favorite animal was a black goat!
