The Most Retweeted Tweet Of All Time

The Most Retweeted Tweet Of All Time 1

While there are tweets all over the Twittersphere with hundreds of thousand retweets and some even having millions, that record was just shattered by Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa. Maezawa is the CEO of Japan’s largest online fashion retailer, Zozotown, and is the man expected to go to the moon with Elon Musk in 2023. On Saturday, January 5, 2019, he posted a tweet promising people on Twitter ¥100 million ($920,000) in cash to 100 people who follow his account and retweet his post by January 7.

As of January 7, 2019, the supposed deadline to receive the cash prize, the tweet had been shared over 5.5 million times, taking the No. 1 spot for the most shared tweet on the social media platform. Apparently, the giveaway was a thank you to customers after Zozotown’s New Year’s sale reached ¥10 billion yen the fastest ever. He also hashtagged the tweet saying “a New Year’s gift for going to the moon,” with a follow-up tweet saying that becoming the most shared tweet on the Internet was “a dream come true.”  Now, we’ll have to see if Yusaku Maezawa was serious about his promise to those who followed his instructions in hopes of striking it rich. He might have some extremely disappointed and angry followers otherwise.
