Fiancée Asks To Pick Out A New Ring; Mother-In-Law Says She Has No Taste

Buying an engagement ring can be stressful. After all, they’re going to be wearing it (hopefully) for the rest of their life. While it should be an exciting experience, that’s not always how it pans out. For one couple, picking the right engagement ring turned into a nightmare once the future husband’s mother got involved.

Selecting An Engagement Ring Can Be Stressful

Picking out an engagement ring for your loved one is stressful. First, you have to know their size.

You want to pick one out that you think they’ll like (and hope they like it), and you hope to get one that’s not going to put you into debt!

It’s Only The Rest Of Your Life!

Not to mention the pressure of asking someone to marry you! And then there’s trying to keep the ring a secret from your significant other.

All in all, picking out an engagement ring is a big deal!

The Tradition Is Changing

But times are changing; not only are fewer people getting married, but many people are opting for less expensive wedding rings.

Also, more people have their partner pick out the engagement ring!

A 25-Year-Old’s Reddit Story

Now, here’s a story about a 25-year-old female. She did not pick out her engagement ring, but she had many discussions about what she wanted with her boyfriend.

But things did not turn out the way she planned, so she went to Reddit to tell the story!

An Almost Perfect Proposal

Her post starts positively with the lovely news that her 27-year-old boyfriend proposed to her the other day!

There was just a minor issue – the ring wasn’t what they discussed!

They’ve Had Many Discussions Before…

In her post, she says,

“We have talked about getting married before this happened, and I have told him exactly what kind of ring I wanted, down to the shape and band.”

Of Course, She Accepted!

But at the time of the proposal, that ring they discussed was nowhere to be seen.

She goes on to say, “I accepted the proposal, of course, but last night…he brought up that his mother actually picked out the ring.”

Who Bought The Ring?

She continued, “He asked me what I thought about it, so I told him honestly what I thought about it, and asked if we could get a different one.”

Even though it was a difficult situation, she wanted to be honest.

Upset Fiance

This discussion, of course, made her fiance upset.

And in his frustration, he told her that she was ungrateful and that she was lucky that he even got her a ring.

A Morning Phone Call…

He told her that since his mom picked it out, she should “just wear it.”

And to top it off, she gets a phone call from her boyfriend’s mom in the morning.

Who Has No Taste?

The boyfriend’s mom tells her she has “no taste in jewelry” and that she should go with what she says.

The Redditor understands that her boyfriend spent a lot of money on the ring, but they’ve talked about what she wanted before, and she’s the one who will be wearing it.

Supportive Reddit Community!

Many on Reddit are on her side; the top-liked comment stated,

“Are you sure you want to marry this guy? He disregarded everything you wanted and just went with what his mom says is best…”

Who Is She Marrying?

The next top comment calls out the boyfriend for basically already being “married” to his mother.

And essentially, the Redditor will come second place regarding decisions and situations involving her future mother-in-law.

At The End Of The Day

At the end of the day, is this 25-year-old in the wrong for asking for a new ring? She and her boyfriend had several discussions about what she wanted beforehand.

Yet, he chose to propose with a ring his mother chose.
