Barbara VanDenburgh of the Arizona Republic called Barefoot an “offensively infantilizing […] spectacularly wrong-headed, chemistry-free romance, and too dumb to know how sexist it is.” She calls Evan Rachel Wood’s character “a cartoon character” similar to the Little Mermaid who “all but brushes her hair with a fork.”

I’m just glad that Evan Rachel Wood is now able to play a super complex female character on HBO’s Westworld. She’s just way too good of an actress to waste her time with manic pixie dream girl roles.
