The first season on HBO’s The Wire centered around the drug trade in Baltimore. Actor Andre Royo played drug addict Bubbles, and was so convincing that someone came up and handed him a package of heroin. The man told him, “Man, you need a fix more than I do.” To this day, Royo says that was his first “street Oscar.”
Royo told Vulture, “When I got the part, I didn’t know anything about the drug game. Fran [Boyd, a former junkie] brought me around to a lot of her friends that are still in the life.” He gave an authentic performance, to say the least.
