George Lucas And Steven Spielberg Are Actually The Worst Best Friends

Rivalry might not be the best word to describe the relationship between George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. Think of it as two brothers whose only competitiveness is a game of cards or playing HORSE in the driveway. Lucas and Spielberg might have started out against each other, but their endless support helped both Hollywood legends reach success.

The filmmakers have reached new heights thanks to their innovative ways of changing the movie industry. With many blockbuster hits, including a seaside chat that gave birth to one of the most epic action-adventure film series ever, the box-office titans have been busy perfecting their crafts as the worst best friends in Hollywood.

George and Steven first met in 1967 at a student film festival at UCLA when a then 18-year-old Speilberg saw Lucas’ independent film THX-1138. The film made Speilberg jealous since he only directed 15 short films of his own, but Lucas’ movie was better than what he did.

The pair wouldn’t cross paths again until 1971 when 20-year-old Lucas caught a screening of Speilberg’s Duel at Frances Ford Coppola’s house. Lucas watched 10 minutes of the film, and he thought that his fellow filmmaker was sharp. Despite Speilberg’s mild jealousy of American Graffiti, they respected each other.
