Harrison Ford was a struggling actor who became a self-taught carpenter. Casting director Fred Roos helped Ford improve his skills and he found himself in American Graffiti. The relationship between Ford and Lucas would affect each other’s careers. Ford and Spielberg wouldn’t meet until years later.
Ford’s work from Lucas’ Oscar-nominated film landed him his first prominent role. Lucas hired the young actor to read lines for actors auditioning for Star Wars. Ford’s performance impressed Lucas so much that he gave him the role of Han Solo. After that, well, Ford and Spielberg teamed up for the Indiana Jones series.
