George Lucas And Steven Spielberg Are Actually The Worst Best Friends

THX Was Named After Tom Holman And Homage To Lucas’ First Film

Lucas and Tom Holman developed THX over at Lucasfilm. They named the company after Holman, and the name also pays homage to Lucas’ first film THX 1138. The “X” presumably stands for crossover or experiment.

Theaters with THX provide much higher quality to ensure soundtracks from films mixed with THX will sound as useful to the work of the mixing engineer. The rumbling low pitch used in the THX trailers was created by Holman’s co-worker, James A. Mooer, which is known as the “Deep Note.”

After years of not making movies, Spielberg pulled Lucas out of the cave.
