After the release of Star Wars, Lucas went off to Hawaii with Speilberg for a vacation and George seemed like himself after the success of space saga. As they sat on the beach, Speilberg told his longtime friend how badly he wanted to direct a James Bond film.
Lucas had a film that was like a Bond film, but better. The story was about an archeologist who had in-depth knowledge of the ancient civilization. That film would turn out to be Indiana Jones, but there was one catch. Lucas named the iconic character after his dog, Indiana, and Smith was the original last name before it was switched.
