Dormouse Shed Their Tails

Salamanders are the most commonly known animal that will shed their tail to escape a predator, but the dormouse does something incredibly similar. a dormouse is not equipped with any unique attacking skills, but it is slick enough to avoid capture. The skin on a dormouse’s tail is very loose. The tail is long to help them climb, but it also is the perfect thing for a predator to grab.
If a predator tries to snag a dormouse by the tail, the skin will slip right off and the dormouse can scurry away. Unfortunately for the dormouse, this impressive escape is a one-time thing. Their skin does not grow back, and they are left with an exposed boney-tail which they often just knaw off.
