Sea Cucumbers Explode Their Organs Out Their Butts

Sea cucumbers are just plain ugly, and their defense mechanisms reflect their gross way of life. The sea cucumber is a bottom feeder and will travel along the sea floor eating any debris it can find. They don’t even have a brain, but even without one, the sea cucumber has an incredible defense mechanism.

If a predator comes at them, they do a two-step process which is guaranteed to ward off any sane person. They start by exploding all the debris they’ve eaten so far that day out their butts as a warning signal. It that wasn’t enough, they’ll compress their organs into mush then explode that out their butts. Finally, they’ll transform their soft body into a rigid stick, just like a cucumber.
