The Texas Horned Lizard is not only deadly but also has a gruesome defense mechanism. If the lizard feels threatened or attacked, it will squeeze its sinus cavities until the blood vessels in its eyes burst. But just bleeding from the eyes isn’t enough — the lizard will then start shooting its blood at the attacker.

Despite being so gruesome, the lizard is the state reptile of Texas and spends most of its days sunbathing. Avid sunbather or not, the only lizard more terrifying than the Texas Horned is the yellow-spotted lizards that almost killed Shia LaBeouf in Holes.
