The only thing more terrifying than a spider catching prey with a net is a spider that knows how to reign in a target with a lasso. The bolas spider can produce a sticky “blob” of silk that they attach to the end of a line of silk. The spider will then use this tool to throw at their prey and wrangle them in.

There are different species of the bolas spider which all swing their lasso differently. One will jet it out toward the prey using one of its legs, kind of like Spiderman’s straight shot of web. Another species will swing the lasso around their head a few times to gain momentum. The third species will swing their lasso for fun even if there is no prey around. Show off.
