Tomcat is also known as a male cat. Tom was originally known as “Jasper” during his debut in the 1940 MGM short Puss Gets The Boot.

For Jerry, he first appeared as a mouse named Jinx in the same animated short. Co-creator William Hannah gave the name while Joseph Barbera claimed the mouse went unnamed in his first appearance.
