Scientists found a tomato plant on Surtsey, a 40-year-old volcanic island in Iceland. They were dumbfounded as to how it got there. It turned out that it grew out of a bowel movement that a scientist had taken on the island.

The island was created during an underwater eruption that happened from 1963 to 1967. It’s been preserved as a living laboratory. Only scientists and a few other people are allowed to visit to reduce human impact.
