Gary Burghoff Had A Misshapen Hand

Gary Burghoff starred as Radar O’Reilly in the hit TV show M.A.S.H. If Gary’s character had a birth defect, he would never have been accepted into the American army. That’s why Gary had to hide his misshapen hand while he was playing Radar, sometimes with gloves or behind objects.

Burghoff was born with a congenital deformity and has only three fingers on his left hand. However, that never slowed him down. Outside of acting, he’s a wildlife painter and a professional jazz drummer. In fact, that was actually him playing in the M*A*S*H episode “Showtime.”
