Pop singer Jessie J co-wrote the song “Party in the USA” with the intention to record it herself. The record label decided the song wasn’t good for her image, so she passed it off to someone younger and more wholesome.

At the time, Miley Cyrus fit the bill and turned the song into a chart-topping hit. Jessie J got royalties from the song, and it paid her rent for three years.
