The founder of The Source Family cult was a man named James Baker (of Father Yod). Baker was the owner of a famous health food store in LA.

He created his own philosophy based on Western mystery tradition and became the patriarch of many young people. They saw him as their spiritual father, and they all lived in a Hollywood mansion together. There was 150 of them, and he was said to have 14 wives. Almost all of the doctrines of the family were kept secret, which adds to the mystery of this cult, but they promoted utopian ideals and organic veganism. The cult quickly fell apart when Father Yod died in a hang gliding accident.
